I’ve heard all my life sticks and stones may break your bones but words will never hurt you. This could not be further from the truth. Words contain power. The Bible refers to the tongue as “a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!” James 3:5 The wounds this little member cuts are deep and it create scars the natural eye cannot see.
Today’s passage refers to it as an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Friends, the tongue and the words it yields cannot only hurt worse than sticks and stones, they cause a deadly poison that strikes right at the heart.
You are not who others say you are. Ask God to heal those deep heart wounds and turn the pain into passion. You are wondrously and beautifully made. You were made with purpose and a God given destiny. Do not be sidetracked by words sent to destroy.
