Names of God: Abba

Abba is Father. We are so blessed to be able to call God our Father. The Lord has really been speaking to my heart about His children being set apart. We are called to be a light in a dark world, we are not called to participate in the darkness. We are a chosen generation, a peculiar people, to be set apart. We are not going to “fit in” and our “views” are not always going to be popular. In fact, they will usually be unpopular because they line up with the Word of God verses the world. When I opened up my devotion this morning the Scripture was Romans 8:15 and it contained this wonderful name of God for this evening’s blog, Abba.

Verse 15 introduces us to the name for our Father, but the verses before and after are so valuable to His children. “(13) For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. (14) For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” These are perilous times we live in. People are thirsty for something only God can provide and it’s time for the Christian army to rise up to that call and tell them about man named Jesus that we have each come to know so well. We need to proclaim how His blood heals and sets free. Verse 13 says clearly if you live after the flesh (things of the world) you will die, but through the Spirit of God if you mortify yourself you shall live. Mortify here means “subdue or deaden (the body or its needs and desires) by self-denial or discipline. Verse 14 goes on to say those led by the Spirit of God you are the sons of God. How awesome to know the Spirit of God leads His children.

We have been grafted in through the blood of Jesus and fear has no hold over us. “ For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.” But wait there is more! We are heirs with Christ and our Father is THE King. “(16) The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: (17) And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with [him], that we may be also glorified together.” Christ suffered so much for us to adopted in to His family. The persecution we go through here due to our beliefs to further His Kingdom is nothing in comparison. So we have to go through some things while we shine His light, shine it anyways! So some people may not like our views, express them anyways. If what we say saves one person from the grips of hell, it’s worth it. Keep standing up and sharing as the Spirit leads us anyways! Thank You ABBA Father for loving us so much that You gave Your son for each of us anyways. 💛 ~ Chelle, #f8ithgal
