The enemy is a sly one. He will sneak up on you before you ever even know he’s there and before you know it that one thought has turned into a full blown regression of depression, that one sip has led back to drinking, that one… it only takes one you know. That is why it is so important to resist the devil at the very thought, the very urge and at that very moment submit yourself to God. There is something about humbling ourselves before God, He sees our weakness and we are made strong in Him through it. When we resist that very first thought, that first nudge from the devil, we don’t give him anything else to build on; and when we turn to our Father we have strength and ammunition should he even try. Today’s verse is an important reminder to always submit ourselves to God and to resist the devil the second he nudges you and he will flee for it is written.
