There is so much going on in chapter one y’all! I find it amazing that we have the Angel Gabriel visiting people here on earth not once but twice! I think that is something definitely worth taking note of. Zacharias had been praying for a child, but his unbelief shows us two things. One, there was a consequence for not believing. He was not able to speak until the baby was born. Two, these angels have been given some measure of power to do things here on earth. Gabriel had the power to keep Zacharias from speaking for a prolonged period of time. Since Jesus died, we now have angels working on our behalf in this realm against the powers of darkness.
My next huge take away is the sheer faith Mary had. The Angel appears and tells her she is highly favored and not to fear. He explains how our Savior will be born to her (who is still a virgin) and she says, “Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it unto me according to thy word…” This is huge, life changing news and she excepts it according to the word of the Angel. That is the kind of faith I want!
It doesn’t escape me that we have two miracles in this chapter. We have Zacharias and Elisabeth conceiving in their old age and then we have Mary learning she will carry our King! The chapter closes with John the Baptist being born and his father Zacharias being filled with the Holy Ghost and prophesying. This chapter had so much to chew on, it was just hard to pick just one thing to talk about. Was there something (or things) that pulled at your heart? Let me know! 💛 ~ Chelle, #f8ithgal
